You are invited to participate in a comprehensive training initiative for the purpose of protecting our
nation's food supply, our food industry stakeholders, and our public at large.

Post 9-11 America is increasingly concerned with protecting itself and its citizens from terrorist attacks. As you can attest, one potential and vulnerable target is the nation's food supply, which if attacked could cripple the country and our industry.

The Initiative:
  • A national education and training model consisting of three phases.
  • Provides training for all segments in the food supply chain-from farm to fork-united with personnel from emergency management and government agencies.
  • Addresses situations and issues related to the protection, defense, and response of the nation's food system. While this initiative will target Pennsylvania stakeholders, it will ultimately serve as a model for the entire nation.
Program Leaders:
  • Saint Joseph's University's Early Responders Distance Learning Center and Center for Food Marketing, operating through the Pennsylvania Institute for Food Marketing Education and Research (PIFMER) at the University.
  • Procacci Brothers, Wholesale Produce Distribution.
  • The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is formally endorsing the program.
Program details:

This training program will commence in June 2007. We invite you and members of your organization you may select to take part in this unique opportunity by participating preferably in all the three phases of the program.

  • Phase 1, available immediately, participants are encouraged to pre-event prep via reviewing five (5) web based presentations on food defense. These web based presentations can be completed in about 1 hour. They are available right here ...
  • Phase 2, conducted on July 25th at Saint Joseph's University, participants will engage in a comprehensive tabletop exercise, with all segments and stakeholders represented.
  • Phase 3, conducted on July 26th, participants will participate in a field exercise set at Procacci Brothers Wholesale Produce Distribution located at 3333 South Front Street, Phila., PA 19148.
Who should attend?
  • Any organization or individual concerned about or accountable for the protection, defense, and response related to potential threats against food products grown, raised, manufactured, moved, bought or sold, and for ensuring public safety and security.
Benefits:
  • NO CHARGE to participants for web based presentations, the table-top program, the field exercise, program materials, and program meals (hotel, travel, other meals/incidentals, and other non-program expenses not included.)
  • Take part in an unprecedented initiative linking the food chain, emergency responders, and government entities.
  • Receive education and training that is comprehensive, targeted, current, and timely on one of the most important issues facing food industry stakeholders and the public.
  • Continuing Education Units (CEU's) available through IACET for each individual phase of the training.
  • Certificate of Completion personalized for each participant successfully completing the program, and logo of completion that can be placed on company's/organization's website.

Saint Joseph's University, Procacci Brothers, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council (ATAC), the Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Task Force (SE RTF), and the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) are proud to lead this initiative. As a fellow stakeholder, please capitalize on this unique educational program and share your expertise in helping to protect the food supply and the public at large.
